Mark R. Merritt is a 6th Generation Merritt/ Crawford County GA. Potter. Mark considers himself
a modern Crawford County potter, born in 1960; he uses traditional style, but modern glazes and
techniques. Besides pursuing his love of pottery, Mark and his family also manufacture clay for use in pottery; at Lizella
Clay Company, a business founded by his father, Ray, more than forty years ago. Lizella Clay Company was featured in an article
in the October 2003 issue of Southern Living Magazine, in the Georgia Living section.
Mark is the grandson of the late Jewel Merritt. He is the great – great grandson of Jackson (Jack) Merritt and
his great great great-uncle is William Dennis (Billy) Merritt. More information on the Merritt family can be found in the

Mark's wife, Coni, enjoys the pottery business as much as he does. She glazes and decorates most of the pottery;
and also is getting into decorating the face jugs. Besides her love for pottery, Coni also enjoys Counted-Cross Stitch and
other forms of Folk Art. She is also a full-time Mary Kay Consultant.
They both are active in the church and enjoy traveling to various craft in pottery shows. They have two children: Josh
(15) and Hannah (12).
